Update on HD Converter Box Coupons

A while back, I wrote a post about getting your coupons from the DTVAnswers.com for the converter boxes that you will need after Feb. 2009. I feel I have to warn people that you MUST use them before their expiration dates. They cannot be reissued (at least for now).

I have a big problem with this. First: anyone that bought one before July 2008 had to get an additional analog pass-through thing. My coupons were not expiring until the end of July (08), so I decided to wait. Side note: I would not have know about the "analog pass-through" if is wan not for the owner of my local Radio Shack. When I called ahead like say to he told me too wait until after July. I just barley seen a commercial saying the same thing.

Every time I called the stores that carried the converter boxes, they said they were out and the next shipment would be in next week. However, I got this song and dance the next week (I think the employees were keeping them for themselves or they were not getting enough, which leads me to my other problem).

If people cannot get the converter boxes at any local stores are they expected to get them online. Not everyone has access to the internet, not everyone wants to use his or her bank/credit cards online, etc... And the converter boxes are more expensive online. Topically $5-10 over what the brick-an-motor stores charge plus shipping. Therefore, the out of pocket cost goes from $10 (maybe less) to $20.

I do not remember seeing anything about the coupons "not be able to be reissued for any reason" on the DTVAnswers.com website when I got my coupons but that does not mean that it was not there.

However, Wal-Mart employees told my mother-in-law that they would reissue the coupons when she called Wal-Mart.

Either way, the coupons were not used why couldn’t they reissue them? I was rudely told by DTVAnswers.com customer service that "by Law WE CANNOT REISSUE THE COUPONS", I would like to know what law that is, and whom do I complain too.

I sent an email to the local TV stations, hopefully one of them will pick up the story. Sometimes it takes TV to get things done, lol. *I found a few forums/blogs that have a bunch of other people complaining about the same thing.

Why should we have to pay for something that the masses could live without and is being forced upon us. Issues like this are the reason the last attempt to convert to HD did not happen. Their is a website that allows people to make petitions, maybe I will make one to change that "law" I was told is the reason they cannot be reissued.

Please, if you have the same problem (unused "converter box coupon" due to local stores not having any in stock) leave a comment here. In addition, if you have the time leave comments on the other forums and send emails to your local TV stations.

And, save your "expired coupons" and any paperwork you have. That way if they do ever reissue them you will have proof they are not used!
